Wakomata Lake offers excellent Small Mouth Bass fishing from early summer through to fall. Bill Barson holds the record for the largest known “smallie” caught in the lake – a seven 1/4 lb.’er caught in June 1996. Bill has graciously allowed us to hang his replica of the fish in our Dining Lounge. He is determined to match or top his catch this summer and says he will donate it to the resort for display.

Lake Trout can be caught still-fishing or trolling. Trolling however generally yields the best results. Gang trolls or cow bells, followed by a Rapala or Bomber are very popular for trolling. Luhr Jensen makes a variety of gang trolls – we have been using the “Dave Davis” 7-blade and the “Beer Can” 4-blade models. Large silver spoons such as “Williams” have also proven successful with a large shiner or sucker minnow as bait. Lake Trout season is open January 1 to Labour Day Weekend. Small Mouth Bass season is open year round. Northern Pike is also open year round.

Wakomata Shores Resort has a modern fish cleaning hut which has water in the summer as a service to our fishing guests.
